The need to have a competent and motivated workforce, delivering evidence-based treatments is central to maintaining the delivery of a successful and efficient treatment system. Therefore, this course is a skills framework that is a recovery-orientated model of drug and alcohol treatment which shows clear evidence to National Occupational Standards (DANOS), Health and Social Care Suite (HSC), and NICE clinical guidance.
This course offers classroom lessons combined with practical placement. EDAS is in a position to offer a number of part-time work placements. Students can also arrange their own placement at their own place of work, or an alternative agency if they so wish.
This professionally recognised qualification will provide you with a solid platform to apply for University degree* courses in Health and Social Care related subjects, as the placement aspect of the course will provide the applicant with hands-on experience in case management and clinical delivery.
*(GCSE Maths, English and Science Grade C and above are not a prerequisite for the Access Diploma Course with EDAS but they may be entry requirements for some degree courses at University).
A large team of highly qualified tutors has been assembled, with the aim of providing a varied and systematic grounding in all issues related to drug/alcohol problems.
Alcoholism is a multifactorial and heterogeneous disorder with biopsychosocial components. The interplay between genetic, environmental, and psychiatric factors cannot be overemphasized. With this in mind, our tutors include doctors, counsellors, and psychologists.
A particular emphasis is given to exploring the nature of resistance and methods of facilitating change. The formal teaching component includes the complete practitioner’s basic training course in Motivational Interviewing followed by reflective practice and the full use of reflective practice transforms through into supervision.
All students will be provided with a comprehensive support structure, including a personal tutor, as well as clinical and group supervision.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in working with people with drug and alcohol problems. Highly suitable for those already working in the field, using current employment as placement experience.
