In October 2012 family, friends, and other professionals joined together to celebrate in the graduation of the peer mentors.

"The aim of the mentors, is to make recovery visible and to support in the community, also to have a public profile of what can be achieved in overcoming addiction and to gather public support, in giving others hope, optimism and to let them know they are not alone".

Assistance given  in the community since the mentors graduated includes:

Two female mentors have had several meetings with a mentee including home visits, escorting them to PACT and EDAS. Reports were given to Marko on each meeting and self-reflective journals were kept to process in supervision.

Another two mentors responded to a call from PGH and visited an in-patient, on ward A5. The mentor followed mentoring protocols, i.e. spoke to supervisor and contacted hospital to collate background information and reported back on meeting and arranged alternative communications i.e. email and texting due to patients disability.

A male mentor has taken a mentee, escorting him to CAB and meeting him to try and get him engaged in AA meetings and EDAS programmes.

One mentor who excelled on the course will be assisting the tutors with the next mentoring course and several are helping at the Saturday aftercare, at SMART, in the well-being group, and in the women’s group.
