Introduction to Motivational Interviewing

CPD-Logo-2018-PNG-300x298.pngCourse Overview

This course is an introduction to Motivational Interviewing, a patient-centred and gently directive interaction style used to negotiate behaviour change, recognised as one of the most powerful approaches when working with addiction.

Initially, Motivational Interviewing was developed as a tool to work with people with alcohol problems but it can be used for any situation in which there is ambivalence about change. Within psychiatry, this approach has been applied to people with dual diagnosis, obsessive-compulsive disorders, eating disorders, and anxiety, and to improve treatment adherence in psychosis.

This course gives an overview of the principles of Motivational Interviewing and some practical tips and help with applying the principles to everyday practice with your clients.

This course is worth 3 CPD credits.

A CPD attainment certificate will be provided on course completion.
